Save the Oregon Dunes 2026 Volunteer Events Schedule

What:  Invasive Broom Removal Event.  Save the Oregon Dunes!

When:  Saturday, April 25th from 10:00 a.m. until Noon

Where:  North Bend, Trans Pacific Parkway, Oregon

Celebrate Earth Day by volunteering with the Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative and Coos Watershed Association to remove invasive Scotch broom and European beach grass at the BLM's 80-acre parcel on Trans Pacific Parkway on Saturday, April 25 from 10 AM to Noon. We will be working on a moderate, sandy slope about 1/10 of a mile from the road.

Bring closed-toe shoes, work gloves, water, and snacks. Please bring shovels or loppers if you have them. If you don't, ODRC will have tools you can borrow. The Scotch broom plants are generally small, so this will be a good opportunity for families to work together helping out the Oregon dunes!

The current weather prediction for Saturday is sunny with a high of 62, low of 48. Great weather for removing Scotch broom and beachgrass. If it is sunny or misting, we will be working, if it is a storm, we will cancel. Check our website, https://www.saveoregondunes.org/events/ or our Facebook page, Save The Oregon Dunes, for updates.

Directions:

From North Bend, Oregon, take Hwy 101 north, passing over the McCullough Memorial Bridge. Turn left onto Trans Pacific Parkway and go approximately 1.75 miles (you will go past both Horsfall Beach Rd. and Jordan Cove Rd.) There is a turnout on the south side of the road next to the railroad tracks where you can park. If that area fills up, there is a smaller turnout on the north side of the road. The shoulder of the road is wide in this area, so there is additional parking on the shoulder if the turnouts fill up.

From Florence, Oregon, take Hwy 101 south, 45 miles. Turn right onto Trans Pacific Parkway and go approximately 1.75 miles (you will go past both Horsfall Beach Rd. and Jordan Cove Rd.) There is a turnout on the south side of the road next to the railroad tracks where you can park. If that area fills up, there is a smaller turnout on the north side of the road. The shoulder of the road is wide in this area, so there is additional parking on the shoulder if the turnouts fill up. If you would like to carpool and either need a ride or riders, email info@saveoregondunes.org and we will work to line up carpooling for those interested.

The Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative's mission is to collaboratively support, guide and promote Oregon dunes restoration and the preservation of the open sand, unique habitats, and dunes processes that benefit the plants, animals and people who live and play in this special place.

Oregon Dunes Restoration Collaborative has scheduled their Scotch broom removal volunteer events for this coming season. See the flyer for dates and locations. More details to come about each event as it gets closer to the date.

Please come out to one or more of the events! If we have a large group we can get a lot done to remove the invasive plants and protect the open sand dune habitat important for the native plants and amimals of the Oregon dunes.
