OSU Rural Coastal Pond Management Workshop

A team of OSU Extension Service faculty are delivering a new rural pond management workshop this month on the Coast. It is a new educational program designed to support rural land management service providers (primarily ag and forest) answer questions about ponds. OSU's goal is to develop regional networks of peers that work together to help rural pond owners manage their ponds as good land and water stewards.

OSU receives questions every year regarding how to address excessive algae, invasive plants, leaking ponds, etc. OSUK believes there is a demand for assistance that is not being met, and these questions are an opportunity to share stewardship practices to improve water conservation, water quality, and fish and wildlife habitat. At a minimum, this work may prevent ecosystem problems from using poor practices.

This coastal region workshop will be delivered through a three-hour online presentation followed by 1/2-day field site visits to local ponds.  Participants will learn how to assess common pond problems and pond health, determine solutions to address these problems, and access resources for additional assistance.  OSU will also identify priority topics for future advanced training.

Please register to attend our new program and share information with peers that may want to join this effort.
